Rick Ross has been arrested in Miami Beach following allegations of domestic violence involving an ex-girlfriend.
The 50-year-old rapper, whose real name is William Leonard Roberts II, surrendered to Miami Beach police early Thursday, October 1, and was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at about 6:10 a.m.
Ross is facing one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor battery charge, with both charges classified as domestic-violence related.
What Happened?
According to the arrest affidavit, the allegations relate to an incident that investigators say happened on August 28 at Ross’ Star Island residence in Miami Beach.
The woman told police that she had been in a relationship with Ross for about a year and was living with him at the time.
According to her account, Ross allegedly became angry after seeing that she had been tagged in an Instagram photo. She told investigators that an argument followed and that Ross allegedly struck her several times.
Police also allege that he restricted her breathing by grabbing and twisting the collar of her hoodie. The affidavit further alleges that Ross grabbed her by her ponytail and slammed her against a wall before striking her in the face, causing a cut or injury to her lip.
The woman later provided police with photographs of injuries that investigators said were consistent with the timing of the alleged incident. Police also said detectives reviewed surveillance footage connected to the case.
Ross Says the Allegations Are False
Rick Ross has denied the allegations.
After being released, the rapper told reporters that he was “totally innocent” and described the accusations as fabricated. His attorney, Bradley Horenstein, also said Ross was being wrongfully accused and urged the public not to prejudge the case while the legal process continues.
Ross entered a not-guilty plea through his attorney during his court appearance.
A judge set his total bond at $5,000, and Ross was released later Thursday. He was also ordered to stay away from the alleged victim and have no direct or indirect contact with her while the case proceeds.
When Is Rick Ross Going Back to Court?
Ross’ arraignment is scheduled for October 22, 2026.
Until the case is resolved, the allegations remain allegations. The arrest and criminal charges do not constitute a finding of guilt.
