Nollywood has recorded another major milestone after the crime thriller Black Market attracted 51,258 qualifying viewers to a single screening in Lagos.
The historic screening took place at Tafawa Balewa Square on September 26, with Guinness World Records officially recognising the attendance figure. The achievement surpassed the previous record of 43,624 viewers, set by the Filipino film Felix Manalo in 2015.
The massive turnout turned the film’s premiere into one of the biggest movie events Nigeria has seen in recent years, bringing together thousands of movie fans in one location.
The record is particularly significant for Nollywood, which has increasingly expanded its influence beyond traditional cinema through large-scale premieres, streaming releases and international distribution.
Black Market is a crime thriller and its record-breaking screening has generated additional attention around the film and its production team.
The achievement also highlights the growing ability of Nigerian filmmakers to create major entertainment events capable of attracting huge audiences.
With more than 51,000 people officially recorded at the Lagos screening, Black Market has now secured its place in Nollywood’s growing list of landmark moments.
