Fela FC have been crowned champions of the 2026 MTN Independence Cup after producing a dominant performance in the final.
The Lagos-based side defeated Future Heroes 5-1 at Fela Field in Ipaja to claim the title.
Fela FC’s emphatic victory capped a successful campaign in the competition and gave the team a memorable way to mark Nigeria’s Independence season.
The final scoreline reflected the attacking display produced by the champions, who pulled away from Future Heroes to secure a convincing victory.
The tournament forms part of Nigeria’s wider grassroots football ecosystem, providing opportunities for local players and clubs to compete in an organised national competition.
The victory also gives Fela FC a major piece of silverware and another moment to build on as the club continues developing its football project.
For Future Heroes, the final ended in disappointment despite reaching the championship match.
The 5-1 result will remain one of the biggest scorelines associated with this year’s Independence Cup, while Fela FC leave the tournament as the 2026 champions.
